Pioneer Park Youth Roll Grapes!!!!

One Amazing Youth Service Project

Our mutual activity one night was to go to the vineyard and help finish rolling the grapes. It was fun and we had about 30 people there to help finish up this project. This is what the rows looked like before we got to it. I was amazed how fast it went. We were done in less than an hour. It took longer to drive there and back than to actually do it.

This is Mary and Arona in the ward. They are the cutest sisters and they are so much fun to be around. They worked so hard while they were there. As you can see one must kneel down and roll the dried grapes in the papers. We called it the egg roll wrap.

This is Brendan as he worked in the row next to me. I just loved the way the vines made an amazing border for this picture.

This is me at the end of the night. There was tons of grapes left on the vines. I picked a few and stuffed them in my shirt. This is Sheila Lee one of my Mia Maids. She is so amazing and I just love her name. It is the coolest name and she is the smarts and sweetest girl.

This was Chuck and I at the beginning of our journey. Notice the smiles of our faces because we had just started our 14 miles round trip hike up and down. The weather was beautiful and it was an amazing day to be out in nature. We wanted to start at 6am but did not get on the trail until 8am.

This was the furthest we went. I would like to say I made it to the top. We went as far as we could and our bodies would not let us go any further. It was a great experience and I learned what I need to do to prepared better. Even though I had prepared alot for this trip I did not prepared enough. I failed to practice going on hikes to prepare for this one. I had only gone on one hike this year. It is hard to go from a mile hike to a 16 mile hike with nothing inbetween.

We were close enough to see but not close enough to continue on. We ran out of time because it was 2:30 when we got to this point and knew we had to come back down. We ended up coming down in the dark and that was not fun. My pace was just so slow. My shoes were too tight from my big, flat and duck feet. So coming down was so painful that I finally just took my shoes off and walked in my socks. It was a great day and the scenery was amazing. Even though the journey was difficult I took the time to look around and enjoyed the view. Well I will continue to prepare and work to try again next year. So we are already planning on going on smaller hikes and building up endurance for longer hikes.

I am not lost just busy

Well it has been awhile since I have posted anything on my Blog. It is a good thing I am such good friends with Gwen Hawkins because she has posted several things that we have been involved in. I am just busy trying to get used to working again, having my kids my in school and trying to train to make it up half dome. So as soon as I feel up to it I do have some really cute pictures I have taken. I promise to get back on soon......

What a great surpise!!!!

What a great surpise....I went to Brendan's Scout Court of Honor last Tuesday night and had a great surprise. Brendan had gone to Scout camp this summer and I just figured he had earned a few merit badges. Well he made the scout rank of life. I am so proud of him. Scouting is not Brendan's favorite thing but he has a goal to get Eagle and I know Brendan and know he is one determined boy. He also got his On my Honor. What a great night.

A fun beach

I had a great day at the beach on Labor Day. I had the great pleasure of driving Brendan and his friends to Morro Rock and Pismo Beach. It was just a lazy day at the beach...we played in the water, walked on the beach, sat and read on the beach and just relaxed. The weather was great and it was just a refreshing day. I really miss the beach. I grew up on the coast and spent many hours on the beach. It brings back great memories to me. The day could not have been more perfect excpet if I actually had lived by the beach.
